Info:
This tree is a shrubby, arid climate tree with a world of uses, most notably for a cattle fodder, and decoration. The young pods of the haole koa tree are cooked and eaten as vegetables. Seeds can be used as a substitute for a coffee. The haole koa often grows 6-8 feet in arid tropical climates and can become a pest species in such climates. They usually grow better under full sun, needs little water, probably not surviving temperatures lower than 32 degrees F. The haole koa is an extremely fast-grower, but care should be taken in some regions to control growth as the seeds are easily dispersed by birds and grazing cattle and the tree has the potential to become a pest. By propagation by seed, upon which seedlings can take less than 12 months to come into bearing. The origin and distribution of the haole koa is from the Native to Central America but has naturalized in many tropical regions.
