Description
The 1,600 foot high cliffs (Pali) that separate the topside of Molokai Island from the Kalaupapa peninsula were the perfect walls or fences to keep the "Lepers" from escaping their lifetime confinement from "normal society. From 1865 until 1969 Kalaupapa was a confinement camp for those unfortunate enough to be diagnosed with Hansen disease. The beauty of this place is hard to reconcile with the history it holds.
