This was the first year - 1936 - that Buick offered the sport coupe body style on the Special chassis. Only 2,003 were built and 17 of those were exported.
This was the year that saw Buick's turnaround begin. There was so much new for 1936 - dramatic new styling, hydraulic brakes, slanted v-type windshield, bullet-type headlamps, turret top bodies, independent front suspension, new alloy pistons and improved water temperature control.
This Buick Special is powered by one of Buick's famous straight eight motors - the 233 cubic-inch version that developed 93 horsepower thanks to a two-barrel Stromberg carburetor. It was capable of 85 mph.

My first camera was a Kodak Brownie that I purchased with a $5.00 bill that I found at the age of 12 (69 years ago, so no digital then). My first black and white photos were of the Steinhardt Museum in San Francisco and later the Kon Tiki, Thor Heyerdahl's sailing raft. Needless to say I was hooked. I joined the Air Force in 1960 and traveled throughout Asia. Even after retiring from the Air Force I was still in and out of Asia and Hawaii. My usual choice of 35 mm cameras was by Canon. I've done some 4 X 5 macro photography for a friend's magazine and shot lots of weddings, B Day parties, friend's kids / animals and many other joyous occasions. I'm now retired after working for the government for 42 years so spend a lot of time shooting...
