Description
This beach has a long history as a popular spot for locals and some of the more gutsy tourists. At one time the area was the site of a homeless encampment with near permanent "camps" set up, primarily by Hawaiians. Unfortunate for them, the State of Hawaii eventually came in and bulldozed them down. One of the titles given the beach was, "Pray for Sets", or waves for surfing. Sometime in the forgotten past someone scratched into the big rock on the beach, the words "Pray for Sex" and it stuck. The rock in this shot being covered by waves is that rock. At low tide, people jump off of that rock and into the incoming tide along side of it. On this day the tide was unusually high with the incoming Winter waves. In Hawaiian this is called Kula'Ia'I.
