Artist's Description

Sunset of the gods
The Hawaiian Goddess Pele for the fire in the sky
The Hawaiian God of the sea Kanaloa
The Hawaiian goddess of the sunset Hina
And the four gods of the Ku’iloloa Heiau shown to the right side of the photo
The Heiau (sacred site) Ku’iloloa at Pokai Bay, in Waianae Hawaii is named after the Hawaiian Gods: Ku, Lono, Kane and Kanaloa. It was built in the 11th or 12 century by a Tahitian navigator Lonokaheo with stones that he brought from Tahiti. It is also said to be dedicated to Lonokaheo’s faithful dog (one of two Heiau in Hawaii dedicated to a dog). It is unique as it is surrounded by the ocean on three sides and considered at place of refuge and school of navigation. Photograph is the property of Craig Wood and cannot be copied or used without permission. FAA watermark will not appear on prints purchased.

About Craig Wood

Craig Wood

My first camera was a Kodak Brownie that I purchased with a $5.00 bill that I found at the age of 12 (69 years ago, so no digital then). My first black and white photos were of the Steinhardt Museum in San Francisco and later the Kon Tiki, Thor Heyerdahl's sailing raft. Needless to say I was hooked. I joined the Air Force in 1960 and traveled throughout Asia. Even after retiring from the Air Force I was still in and out of Asia and Hawaii. My usual choice of 35 mm cameras was by Canon. I've done some 4 X 5 macro photography for a friend's magazine and shot lots of weddings, B Day parties, friend's kids / animals and many other joyous occasions. I'm now retired after working for the government for 42 years so spend a lot of time shooting...
